My Approach to Economics: When I consider my role as an instructor of economics and my understanding of the contribution that economics makes to society, I think of the following laws attributed to Kenneth Boulding (1910-1993) who was a professor of economics at the University of Colorado: Boulding's "First Law": Anything that exists must be possible Boulding's "Second Law": Everything is what it is because it got that way Corollary: Everything that is did not have to be that way Economics is a useful tool in explaining why these statements are true, and as a natural resource economist, these statements are what encourage me that an understanding of economics can make a real difference in environmental issues.
